How is the paper produced?
By volunteers! Every step of the “Life”, except printing, is done by volunteers.
We strive to offer a professional service, producing a paper which has an excellent reputation. So why not take a few moments to consider how the “Life” arrives on the doorsteps of Braunstone Town and Thorpe Astley?
In total, it takes over 100 people to get the copies through the letterboxes. Every member of the team is highly valued: ordinary people with jobs, people who give their time freely because they think that it’s worth putting something back into the community. We thank each and every one of them: The “Life” cannot operate without them!
Simply put, a Committee meets ten times a year to determine the direction of the paper. The procedure begins when the Treasurer sends out invoices to existing customers: when they’ve made their payments, their ads go into the paper. New customers contact our Ads Manager, who places them onto a waiting list for the next issue when space becomes available. A list of advertisers is drawn up for the Editor who sets the pages – adverts and articles. Some regular contributions from local community groups, articles from our own correspondents, letters, photos and articles from individuals all have to be set against the ads.
When all this is done, the paper goes to the printer. After printing, our Distribution Team take over: the Distribution Manager has a team of Bulk Deliverers who, in turn, distributes the paper out to the Street Deliverers who then push a copy through each household within our area, local council offices, post offices, schools and libraries.
When the distribution is beginning, the Treasurer is sending out invoices for our next issue and the whole process starts again!
Would you like to help?
If you have an hour to spare a month, why not join us? You will be most welcome – we’re a friendly crowd!
You could help by delivering the paper to your local area, or as a reserve deliverer – in case one of our regulars is either ill or on holiday: you could come along to the committee meetings, write articles or take photos.

We can’t print it unless we know about it!
